The James River is also a spectacular fishery for Smallmouth Bass and Flathead Catfish.

The James River throughout the city stretch features whitewater rapids from class I to class IV. The James represents the only urban white water in the United States.

While floating down the river enjoying smallmouth bass on light tackle and crystal clear water you can also pitch a big bait to one of the deeper holes and pull out flathead catfish from 5 to 30 pounds. In the time between the fishing holes you can relax on the raft or take a swim in one of the most beautiful sections of river in Virginia.

What do you need to bring?

Sunscreen, Water shoes or old tennis shoes (for walking in the water and on the rocks),  drinks, snacks and sunglasses. Polarized sunglasses will help you spot fish in the clear water.
