This memorial day
weekend we spent down in Hatteras,
NC fishing for big red drum and
cobia. We didn't do anything on the
cobes but caught a bunch of spanish
mackeral, bluefish, sharks(up to
7'), rays and drum. Here are a few
pics.
Today was a
beautiful day on the water. The
fishing was decent. We caught about
4-5 fish from 5-8 pounds and caught
a 45 pounder at our 2nd spot of the
day. We made a move to a different
section of river for the last spot
of the day and got a 63 pounder.
Another day a
little too windy and man it was
cold! The day started of right
though. First 2 spots produced a 22
and 24. Then we hit the monster. Our
boat best at 71 Pounds. Now I'll be
the first to admit that the picture
doesn't look 71 pounds, but...... it
was! What a fish!
The shad are here!
We have been catching them for the
last 2 weeks but today was the first
day we really caught a good number
of them. We caught about 30 in and
hour and a half.
Today started off
like yesterday really slow. It was
also a lot windier than it was
supposed to be. We had nothing to
speak of the first part of the day
but we kept at it and managed some
nice ones in the afternoon.
Today was really
slow. We tried to make this trip
happen the last 2 days and the wind
wouldn't let it happen. IT also must
have done something to slow down the
fish because this trip just didn't
live up to how the fishing has been.
Today was a pretty
decent day. The morning was nice but
really cold and then it got windy in
the after noon. We had fish of
10,51,55. That's 2 trips in a row
with 2 fish over 50.
Pics to come.
Capt. Travis also
had a trip today and they caught the
new Team Big Cat record! They had
fish of 40,56 and
78
Well today was a
great day for fishing. After getting
blown out yesterday it was perfect
today. I wish we had caught a few
more fish but the size of the ones
we did get more than made up for it.
Our total for today was
5,8,10,15,51,53. I also have some
video of the 51 I will post later.
Oh yeah and we had one of the
biggest hits I have ever had today
and the bait we had on this rod was
huge. Needless to say we didn't get
it. He broke my 100# leader line.
Today I had 4 guys
from Ohio. I was much colder than it
had been over the last week but at
least the wind wasn't blowing like
yesterday. The day started off
really slow. We made a move around
lunch time and things picked up a
little bit. Most fish came from the
main channel today and bait was in
the same place as usual. We ended
the day with a 5,12,16,18,20,27,30
and the last fish of the day was a
52!
Today I had
Charlie Fasano and his Daughter. It
was extremely windy for most of the
day but was really nice right at the
end. We lost a nice one at the boat
right at the beginning but managed a
few more later. We ended up with a
16, 22,28 and a 37.
Travis and I went
fishing for about 4-5 hours today
and did pretty good. Bait was very
easy to get and the fish were close
by. We missed two good bites at the
first spot and the caught two and
the next and one more later. The
fish were 31,41,44.
Thank you to
everyone who came out this weekend
to the Richmond Fishing Expo and
visited out booth and came to the
seminars. That was my first time
giving seminars, so If I didn't
cover something I should have just
shoot me an email and I'll fill you
in.
We will also be at
the Richmond Boat Show at the
Racetrack February 14th - 17th. We
will again be selling tackle and
booking trips. Hopefully by then we
will be restocked on gill nets and
hooks.
This happened a
few weeks ago but Team Big Cat won
the James River Catfishing Club
Angler of the Year Title for the
second year in a row. It was a very
tight race this year and I expect
next year to be even better.
Sorry for the lack
of reports. I will start them again
in late Feb. or March. We have been
and are doing a lot of fishing shows
that are taking up all of our time.
Today I had Justin
Collman and his dad. The day started
off good and ended great with just a
little slow time in the middle of
the day. Perfect day weather wise.
We had fish of 5,5,10,15,16,17,23,39
and 50 today.
Here are a few
pics of our fish...
-----
Capt. Eric also had a trip
today. They started the day off
right with a 29 and some smaller
ones the got into a mid day
slump similar to ours. They
decide to take a chance and make
a long run to see if they could
make something happen and they
sure did. After the move they
caught fish of 32, 47 and
another at 47.
-----
Capt. Travis was out for just
a couple hours today with
friends and boated fish of
25,40,42,48,50 and 53.
Today I had the
Dyer group again. We had a good day
with not a ton of action but a
really great linker fish going 63
Pounds. This is the absolute best
time of year to be fishing so if you
are considering going you should do
it soon!
This Trip was for
the Lindburg family. The trip got
started out right when within 5
minutes of putting the lines out we
were fight a monster 58. A couple
minutes after getting him in we
hooked in to a 38. We ended the
night with a total of a
5,5,5,5,10,13,15,18,38,and a 58.
Team Big Cat (Capt
Scott & Capt. Travis) Finished 4th
in out JRCC Tournament. It was a 50
pound Target Weight tournament. It
was a slow night but we had a 36
pounder and 4 other small fish to
have a total weight of 47.45.
What a miserable
night! It rained all night long and
we were COLD! We started things off
right with this great 51, but after
that it was dead. We ended up coming
in early due to the weather.
Last night I had
Tom Hinnau and his two children. We
started off the night catching some
smaller fish to get the feel for
things. Then we went to try our luck
at a big one. We caught a bunch of
fish from 2-10 pounds before Chris
hooked into a nice 30 pound Blue. We
lost one more right at the end of
the night but they will be back
later in the week to see what we can
add to the totals. I will post some
pics of this trip soon.
Thursday and
Friday night I had Dan Ptrovich from
Chicago. It was just us two both
nights and he got to catch a ton of
fish. We had just shy of 300 pounds
of fish in the two nights he was
here. The fishing was pretty hot.
Not all the fish were big but the
action was intense. I think we had
like 5 doubles and a triple.Thurday
night we caught a 5, 5, 8, 17, 29,
and a 48. Friday we had a
2,3,5,7,7,9,13,28,34,and a 43. What
a trip!
Here are a few
pics. I will put more from the trip
on here when Dan sends them to me.
Also while I was
fishing with Dan, fellow Big Cat
Guide Service member Capt. Travis
took out Ace Laserna and crew on a
very successful trip of their own.
They caught fish of
2,5,5,5,5,7,29,30,38.
It was a little
better than last night. We started
of with not much tide to fish in and
kind of struggled. Once the tide got
rolling we set up on a new spot and
ended up sitting there for 2 hours.
WE must have had a dozens hits where
the fish were completely slamming
the rod down to the water but we
just not taking the whole bait. We
caught one small one there and a 30
pounder. we also had one come off
about half way to the boat that
looked to be around 30 pounds. Later
we caught another small one and a
nice gar. We fished off the night at
the same spot we caught the 23 at on
the 3rd and caught one 22 pounds.
Tonight I had the
Tisdale group. This was a birthday
present and a fun trip for 2 young
guys. The kids were excited about
their fishing and it paid of for
them. After a slow start we fished
up strong with a 23 pound blue. Just
before we caught that one we lost a
really nice fish, probably 25-30
pounds right before it got to the
boat.
Last night the
guys from Gammons Painting had a
pretty decent night. We caught 3
fish but the 1st fish of the night
was the highlight. We started the
night with a 50 pounder followed
shortly later by a 22. We caught one
more later but I'll let the picture
do the talking for this monster.
Last night I had
the Ware Group again. It was a
really slow night. It started slow
than at the tide change things
picked up a bit but then slowed
again. We managed to pull out 3
fish. The first two were smaller but
the third was a brute.
